Shiny Trailers

In case any of our neighbours are wondering what we were doing making all of that noise this past summer, I thought I would post some pictures of what we are doing to our Airstream.

When our Airstream trailer was delivered from the factory, it had a special coating on the skin that was designed to slow oxidation of the aluminum. Over the past 25 years, the coating has gradually failed to the point where there are locations on the upper skins that have no coating left. This has left the exterior looking blotchy, and in some spots the oxidation has progressed enough to discolour the surface and cause minor pitting.

All of the noise has been from a series of tools we have been using to remove the old coating, and polish the aluminum skins. Here are some pictures of the desired result (keep in mind these are not my trailer):

This trailer is very similar in age and design to ours. Significant differences would include the excellent polish job, the restoration work on the tongue and jack, as well as the newer awning.

I could not resist posting this picture as well, both for the beauty of the polish handiwork, as well as the location of the photo. It snowed here in Canada yesterday, and I was thinking about how nice it would be to go down south this winter. He even has a kayak on a roof rack.
